Reunion IFCCSM - February 10, 2001
On the first Saturday of Retromobile, the IFCCSM held its third meeting at which all 8 member clubs were represented (see list of participants, including email addresses). The president or representative of each club gave a presentation about his club, including details of the main activities planned for this year. The main rallies planned for 2001 are shown in the table adjoining.

Lars Frykholm, SM Suede, plans to hold an SM workshop to help Swedish SM owners fix minor problems on their cars, as well as a national rally in August. The club currently has about 50 members.
Brian Cass, SeMantics, offered to answer any questions about the international rally being held in England from 1 to 3 June close to Dover and the Channel
Tunnel. He also informed us that, for those wishing to extend their stay, there is an interesting automotive event at Rockingham on 26-28 May at which
collectors' cars will participate in races around a banked racing circuit. He will provide details on request. Felix Muff, Swiss SM Club, confirmed that the club has already arranged the
programme for the international rally in 2002, to be held on 10-12 May near to Lake Zurich, in addition to two local rallies planned for 2001.
Paul Artaud announced that because of the diminishing number of original spare parts in the possession of the SM Club de France, the Council has just decided
to restrict the sale of such parts to individual members. However, SM club presidents who are members of the SM Club de France and the IFCCSM will
continue to be able to obtain remanufactured parts in quantity to enable them to satisfy the needs of their club members. Pierre Fraleux then gave detailed information about recent, planned and possible
remanufacturing projects. The parts discussed included pressure regulators, height correctors, flexible couplings, door and wing panels, battery housing components, exhaust pipes,
headlights, plastic covers to replace the original glass headlamp covers, bumpers, pistons, rear brake discs, distributor rotors, front wheel arch panels
and bearings for the front suspension arms. Pierre also announced the availability of clear (as opposed to tinted) windscreens at an attractive price, because a
substantial quantity needs to be removed quickly from its current stock location (not in the SM club warehouse).
For the Dutch club, which increased its membership by 30 to 151 in 2000, Peter Pijlmann explained that the club is being reorganized because Derk van
der Velde has stepped down from being president because of lack of spare time. The new president is Paul Paymans, but he was not free to attend the
IFCCSM meeting. In the meantime, Peter has published a new book about the SM - "Sa Majestie"- in Dutch. An English edition (translation by Brian Cass)
and French edition (translation by Paul Artaud) are due to be available later this year. A film portrait of Robert Opron is also in preparation, including some fine shots
of the SM in motion. It is currently planned that the Dutch club will host the international SM rally in 2003. Friedrich Soegtrop showed us the completed CD-ROM whose preparation he
announced last year. It contains a complete multi-lingual parts catalogue as well as other technical documentation and will be sold to SM owners via the various
SM clubs. The German club now has 192 members and its website has been very popular, attracting over 10,000 visits since June 2000. It includes a discussion forum.
Maurizio Baiocchi informed us that the Italian club continues to flourish with nearly 40 members and, in addition to the rallies shown in the table, the Italian
club will exhibit SMs at the Turin and Padua motor shows. Michel Sivirine again participated in the meeting, but only to confirm that the
Belgian club remains a legal entity but in fact has no activity, since Belgian SM owners tend to join the Dutch or French SM clubs.
Following a meeting on the subject in an adjacent conference room, the ICCCR being held in Boston in 2002 was discussed. Based on the opinions of the
people present in the federation meeting, the number of SM owners intending to participate does not currently exceed three or four per country. There are still
many details and procedures to be resolved, even though enrolment forms were available at Retromobile. Watch out for more news at www.semantics.uk.com/international
Adrian Furtado collected some basic information about each club during the meeting and explained that this will be used to expand the information available
on the Federation internet pages (www.ficcsm.org), from where access can be obtained to the websites of all the IFCCSM clubs.
After the meeting, the participants posed for the traditional photograph and were joined by friends for dinner.
