A quick survey of the participants indicated that English was slightly better known than French, so Adrian Furtado, who chaired the meeting as a host of the other clubs, proposed that English be used when
possible, which was done. The absence of a German delegation was explained, which was due to their visit to Retromobile on Monday 15th February.
In accordance with the agenda circulated before the meeting, first the applications of two new clubs for membership was approved unanimously: those of the Belgian SM Club, represented by its Secretary, Michel
Sivirine, and SM-Suede, the Swedish club, represented by its President, Lars Frykholm.
Next, the European Guide to Repairers of the Citroën SM, published by the SM Club de France, was distributed to each club with an oriinal hardcopy and a diskette version, to allow each club to publish the
guide locally in its own way. Adrian Furtado thanked all the clubs that had participated for their assistance in making possible the publication of this guide for the first time.
Afterwards, a representative from each club explained what his association does and supplied the information that had been requested, some of which is summorized in the form of tables.
Then the question of the federation’s logo was discussed. A sketch developed on a flipchart, which retained the elements accepted (chevrons, SM logo and globe) was sent back to the “Cass Development Centre”
author of the proposal for refinement.
Lastly, Pierre Fraleux led a discussion about spare parts manufacture on which there was a long and lively debate by all present.
All three French members of the SM Club de France present had displayed a remarkable fluency in English and everyone had understood the main points raised in the meeting, which had been expressed in
English, “Franglais” or real French depending on the speaker.
Two hours later, after a dinner together, the first of the IFCCSM was declared a success, at which efficiency and friendship were displayed in equal measures among the European SM community and new, positive
relationships were developed.
